Today, there are 198 acres planted principally to Malbec, Torrontés, Tannat, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Merlot, with another 100 acres in development. There are three key vineyards: Finca Las Mercedes offers deep sandy soils and the VSP (Vertical Shoot Positioning) trellis predominates / Finca La Brava sits in the wash at the bottom of a hill and the soils are rocky so vines struggle to survive, creating energy that translates to the fruit / Finca Amalaya, like La Brava, is rocky, with fractured soils and stones of varying sizes and density. ........
A combination of VSP and a more traditional arbor trellis are used in these two vineyards. The Amalaya winery is located at nearly 6,000 feet above sea level in Divisadero in Alto Cafayate. Red wines are produced in small concrete fermenters, while the white wines are allowed to ferment in stainless steel tanks. Cold storage chambers, sorting belts and access to the most advanced winemaking technology assures that Amalaya winemakers can concentrate on achieving notable world-class wines.
